Radioactive Jam

Phoot The Rutabagas!

Cat’s pea strain

Posted by RaJ on November 29th, 2007

Yes my feiends it’s time for more radioactive scavenger hunt weirdness goodness. Whee!

Blame Sheryl for this one. Most likely she will blame me, but I win because “first!” Ha! Hahahaha!

Er.

Sorry. I have no idea where that came from. I do however know where Sheryl came from: the one and only Crap-O-Rama.

Is that a great name or what? :-D

Sheryl and I first “met” during last year’s NaBloPoMo; she was in the midst of visiting and reviewing “R” blogs* and said some very nice things about one of my posts. I enjoy reading Sheryl’s take on work, parenting, life, the universe, and everything. She’s a great blog feiend and I’m glad she’s still going strong.

Now is the time for all good radioactive minions to visit Crap-O-Rama and say hello to Sheryl, okay? Okay.

Sheryl suggested I find “peace train.” I made what seemed like an obvious connection: Cat Stevens aka Steven Demetre Georgiou aka Yusuf Islam. “Peace Train” was the final track on his triple platinum album Teaser and the Firecat, which I (a) once owned a long loooong time ago and (2) haven’t thought about in years.

I now have a copy on order but it hasn’t yet arrived, so this cover picture will have to do.

I liked this album, and played it. A lot. Then something happened; I moved, or gave it away, or… something. I don’t know. Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind took over. But finding stuff for this post and seeing the song names again brought back some powerful memories… *sigh*

Impromptu quiz for you, my feiends.

  1. Have you heard of Cat Stevens?
  2. Have you ever listened to Teaser and the Firecat?
  3. Without using Teh Internets, can you name any song titles from the album?†

That’s it. Sheryl - thanks for the reminder, and for the suggestion. And slightly in advance congratulations on finishing yet another NaBloPoMo; well done!

* That’s “R” as in the first letter of my weblog’s name, not an MPAA Restricted rating. In case you were, you know. Wondering.
† Besides “Peace Train” of course. Duh.

I have heard of Cat Stevens. I can hear a song of his in my head, but I don’t know the name and I don’t believe it’s from that album anyway, which by the way, I’ve never listened to.

  2. Sirdar Says:

    1. Yes (I’m old enough to remember before he…uh…switched religions)
    2. The album title doesn’t ring a bell..
    3. No…but then I don’t remember a lot of song titles…I just listen for the music…

  3. Missy Says:

Yes, of course I’ve heard of Cat Stevens.

I’ve listened to “Teaser and the Firecat” many, many times.

    If I Laugh
    The Wind
    Morning Has Broken
    Rubylove
    Changes IV
    Bitterblue
    Tuesday’s Dead
    How Can I Tell You
    Moonshadow
    Peace Train

No, I didn’t look them up. I love the album that much! One of the best albums ever along with “Tea For the Tillerman”.

He is back performing and is just as good as ever. He performed at “Live Earth Germany” and was amazing!. He performed at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in December 2006 and he also gave a concert at Lincoln Center in New York City in December 2006. So glad he is back performing.

  4. scroobious Says:

    1. Yes.
    2. Yes.
    3. No.

Love Cat Stevens, but it’s a very very very long time since I’ve listened to any of the individual albums, as opposed to very best of etc. So Missy wins. Great songs, anyway.

  5. Luisa Says:

    1. Oui
    2. Yup.
    3. Some of my faves of his: The Wind; Morning Has Broken; Moonshadow; and of course, Peace Train

Go Missy! And Sheryl. And, of course, RaJ.

  6. BadAunt Says:

    1. If I say “yes,” will you think I’m hopelessly old?
    2. When I was at university (the first time) one of my friends had two records, both inherited from her older sister. One was this, and the other was a David Bowie album that included the song “Changes.” (Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes!!!) I became heartily sick of both of them at the time, but would quite happily listen to them again now.
    3. The only song title I can think of now is “Morning has Broken.” It might make me seem a little younger if I tell you that we had to learn to sing it at primary school. (That’s elementary school to you USians.)

  7. ~Sheryl (crap-o-rama) Says:

Wow, what a nice post about me. {blushing} Thank you so much.

Also, thanks for the “monster loaf” reminiscing. That was the first post of yours that I read, and I have been hooked ever since. It’s still hilarious to me.

I really missed doing the reviews this year, but the setup really hampered me from doing it. I will have to figure out a way to do it next year.

    On to your questions:
    1. yes
    2. Not that I know of.
    3. um… Peace Train? (obviously) Or is using information in your post considered using Teh Internets.

You know I was secretly hoping you’d find a buyer for my Rebel XT, but I’m honored to be a part of your scavenger hunt.

  8. Screaming Buffalo Says:

    1. Si
    2. Non
    3. I wish i could remember the song, cuz it’s one of my favorites, but alas, with college exams looming, the most i can remember about anything is rolle’s theorem, the game theory and css style sheet tags

  9. kellypea Says:

Hey RJ — I’m a NaBloPoMo flunky. Thanksgiving killed me. I couldn’t manage to be Martha AND a NaBloPoMo stud. Anyhoo…good to see you’re there. WOOT! And of course I know who Cat Stevens is. I used to own that lp, except my oldest son ripped it off. I used to play Morning Has Broken on my piano and sing at the top of my lungs…Those were certainly the days. Now — off to check out Crap-o-rama…
